Ahmed Awais, of Florida, was headed to Lancaster Airport in PA, and had just departed from Dulles Airport with Southern Airways Express Flight 246, when the plane went down in the DIREX lanes near Arcola Mills Drive, around 12:15 p.m., according to the FAA and local authorities.

For an unknown reason, Awais made the emergency landing in the single-engine Cessna 208 Caravan in the westbound lanes of the Parkway, Virginia State Police said.

The only damage was to the guardrail off the right side of the Parkway.  None of the seven passengers, including Awais, were injured, officials said.

Officials have not said why the pilot made the emergency landing.
