Man Nabbed For At Least 14 Burglaries On Long Island, Police Say Police on Long Island have arrested a man who is allegedly responsible for at least 14 burglaries. Police captured the repeat burglar around 11 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 11 while he was attempting to break into a jewelry store in Bellmore, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, officers were dispatched for a suspicious person that was climbing onto the roof of a jewelry store located on Bedford Avenue. The 51-year-old driver got out to go into the Quick Shop on Patterson Street off Hillsdale Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. when the 2011 Chevy began rolling, Police Capt. Sean Smith said. Proud Tradition Continues: Hillsdale Police Captain Attends Prestigious FBI Academy Hillsdale Police Capt. Sean Smith felt the wind of tradition at his back as he completed the 275th FBI National Academy Program in Quantico, VA earlier this month. The last officer from his department to attend the prestigious program was Lt. Vincent McCarthy back in 1975.
