Fire Chief Terry Moran said the likely cause of the blaze, which broke out on the coldest day of the year at 43 Poplar Ave., in Oradell, was embers from a fireplace in the family room. The homeowner reported the fireplace was in use and that smoke was backing up into the house, Moran said.
