Students Kept Indoors After Bear Spotted Near Plainfield Schools
A bear was recently spotted near two schools in Plainfield, the district said. The bear was seen near Evergreen Elementary School and Plainfield High School, Plainfield Public Schools said on social media. "Out of caution, we urge all school community members to remain indoors and stay alert," Superintendent Rashon K. Hasan said. "The safety of our students, staff, and community is our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in communication with local authorities."

The bear was seen on the porch of a Bedford residence on Hissarlik Way on Saturday, July 27, according to the home's resident. Popular Walking Trail In New Canaan Reopens After Deer Attacks
A popular Fairfield County walking trail has reopened after several walkers were attacked by deer. The incidents in New Canaan took place on the Greenlink Trail associated with the New Canaan Land Trust and were first reported on Thursday, June 9. The first incident took place when two women were walking the trail and came upon an aggressive doe and a yearling, also on the trail who would not move, said New Canaan Police Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm. A rare warning was issued by officials in a metro New York community following a recent rash of coyote sightings in the region. A Fairfield County dog received a mysterious bite wound while loose in a yard in Fairfield County. Monroe Animal Control said the incident happened on Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the area of Church Street, while the owner was cleaning off a gas grill and heard the dog yelp in the tree line of the yard. There have been new black bear sightings in the area. The latest report comes out of Northern Westchester, where the police department received two calls on Wednesday regarding bear sightings in the village. Multiple Black Bear Sightings Reported In Northern Westchester
Multiple sightings of a black bear were reported Saturday in Northern Westchester near the Putnam border. The Yorktown Police Department received the reports of a black bear along the Route 202 (Crompond Road) corridor near BJ's, Lexington Avenue, Sylvan Glen Park Preserve, the Yorktown Paw Park and Stony Street.
