Man Lied About Getting Carjacked, Caused False Alarm: Berkeley Heights PD
A man who set off an intense search for a carjacker in Berkeley Heights Tuesday faces charges of lying to police, the department said in a statement. When police responded to a vehicle crash at 900 Mountain Ave., William Richards of Bayville told them his vehicle had been carjacked earlier in Newark and driven to Berkeley Heights, where the carjacker crashed, the department said. Richards also told police the man had a gun and had fled into nearby woods. Bomb-Making Materials Found At Clark Home, Authorities Say
A Clark man is in custody after he called authorities to his home, where they found a cache of weapons and bomb-making materials, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday. Robert J. Wills, 52, called 911 around 10 a.m. Monday morning and said a police presence would be needed at a State Street home because someone planned to commit an act of violence there, the prosecutor's office said. ? Man, 28, Dies In Elizabeth Bar Fight; Authorities Seek Killer
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 in an effort to solve the death of a 28-year-old man in an Elizabeth bar fight. Oscar Melara was taken to Trinitas Regional Medical Center after a 2 a.m. fight at Ben's Bar on Meadow Street, Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said. Melara was pronounced dead at the hospital. The prosecutor's office, Elizabeth Police Department and Union County Sheriff's Office are investigating. Two Critically Injured In Fight, Hit-And-Run Outside Linden Strip Club
A fight early Sunday at a Linden strip club has left two men in critical condition, police said. The brawl erupted at Cheeque's Gentlemen's Club on East Linden Avenue around 3 a.m. Two men were beaten by "multiple suspects," police said. At some point one of the men, a 31-year-old Jersey City resident, was hit by a vehicle. That vehicle left the scene and was last seen traveling west on East Linden Avenue.
