Closing Of Century-Old Maryland Hospital Means New Beginnings 11 Minutes Away A Maryland hospital will be closing next month after more than a century. UM Harford Memorial, which admitted its first patient in 1912, announced it will close its doors on Feb. 6. A statement from the hospital says its "aging facilities simply can no longer meet the demands of a modern healthcare system." The day that UM Harford Memorial closes, though, a new, state-of-the-art medical center will open in Aberdeen, 6 miles and 11 minutes away.
