Toms River Teen Impaled By Javelin
A teenager from the Jersey Shore was hospitalized after being impaled by a javelin at a track-and-field event, authorities said. Firefighters in Toms River were called to cut the javelin without vibration before taking the victim to the hospital, initial reports said. It was unclear whether the boy was a student observer or an athlete participating in the event. A former Olympian in track and field has been indicted on 12 counts of indecent assault and battery in connection with complaints that the abuse took place at a camp for boys in Western Massachusetts. Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington announced on Tuesday, March 16, that 69-year-old Conrad Mainwaring, who was residing in Los Angeles, was arrested as he left a California courthouse on a fugitive from justice warrant. A record-breaking Madison High School track and field star suffered a freak accident in which his left leg required an amputation. RJ Graddy (Class of 2011) severed an artery in his leg in the incident, which happened in Austin, Texas -- where he is currently living, according to a GoFundMe page. The page had raised more than $11,600 for Graddy as of Tuesday afternoon. In 2010, Graddy broke school records with a 43-foot, 1-inch triple jump at a Teaneck meet. WYCKOFF, N.J. -- Services have been set for Wyckoff athlete Ben Landel, who died after a months-long battle with cancer on Jan. 25 at 18 years old.
