Man Fires Gun Inside Long Island Business Before 3-Hour Standoff, Police Say
A man allegedly opened fire inside a Long Island business before engaging in a three-hour standoff with police.
Emergency crews in Riverhead were called at around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, for a man shooting a gun inside the Cross Island Concrete Corporation, located on Kroemer Avenue.
Multiple agencies, including the Riverhead, Suffolk County, and Southold police departments responded and cordoned off the area surrounding the business.
A K-9 unit and hostage negotiator were also brought in, according to Riverhead Police.

A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly punching a police officer in the head during a domestic incident.
Thomas Hilton, age 54, of Greenport, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, in Greenport, said the Southold Police Department.
According to police, Southold Police received a 911 call from a woman requesting assistance with her boyfriend.
When police arrived, they were talking with the woman when she became uncooperative with the officers and refused to allow them to speak with Hilton, police said.

Young Girl, Two Boys Saved From Drowning With Help From Bystanders On Long Island
With the help of local bystanders, three Long Island juveniles were saved from drowning when they suddenly found themselves in deep water.
The incident took place in Suffolk County around 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at the beach at South Harbor Road in Southhold, police said.
The three were playing in the water when they suddenly found themselves in water that was too deep and began to struggle, said Southold Police Sgt. Willliam Brewer.

Registered Long Island Sex Offender Charged For Failing To Report Move
A registered sex offender is facing new charges after failing to report an address change, police in Southold said.'
On Thursday, Nov. 12, Brian Tillis, 49, surrendered himself to the Southold Police Department after failing to report a move from Fisher’s Island to Groton, Connecticut, earlier this year.
Police said that Tillis was charged with failing to register an address change as a convicted sex offender, also known as Megan's Law. As a registered Sex Offender, Tillis is obligated to notify law enforcement within 10 days of changing his address, which he failed to do.

An intoxicated man was found passed out behind the wheel in a Greenport parking lot with his foot on the gas, causing it to smoke and overheat, police said.
Police in Southold received a report at approximately 10:36 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, of a vehicle parked in the Adams Street parking lot with the engine accelerating and the driver, 24-year-old Greenport resident Walter Alvizures-Gomez passed out in the front seat.
According to police, responding officers found Alvizures-Gomez passed out with his foot on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to overheat.
