Ex-Newark Child Services Case Worker Sexually Assaulted Two Children, AG Says
A 58-year-old former New Jersey Department of Children and Family Services Division of Child Protection and Permanency case worker has been indicted for sexually abusing two children, authorities said.
Trent L. Collier, formerly of Newark and currently of Savannah, GA, has been charged in a seven-count indictment with sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, attempted aggravated sexual assault, and official misconduct, based on Collier’s alleged sexually abusive conduct toward the two minor victims, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said.

A New Jersey man has been identified as one of the three U.S. Army Reserve soldiers killed in a drone attack in Jordan over the weekend, the Department of Defense announced.
Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, a Willingboro native, died alongside Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, GA, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia, the DOD said.
The three soldiers were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve when a one-way, unmanned aerial system impacted their container housing units on Sunday, Jan. 28 in Jordan.

Methuen Man With 'Beautiful Soul' Dies At 20, Community Pours Out Support
A young man who "met everyone with a smile" died, leaving his family to lean on their community in his absence.
Xavier Carlos Cordero, of Methuen, died "peacefully" at age 20 in Buffalo, New York, according to his obituary.
Cordero spent his childhood in Savannah, Georgia and Worcester, Massachusetts before moving to Methuen.
He was a high school athlete, participating on the wrestling, golf, and track teams while attending Methuen High School.
He graduated in 2021 and enrolled in Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

NJ Native Shot Dead By Ex-BF At European Wax Center In Georgia
A 19-year-old Bergen County native was shot and killed at her workplace by her ex-boyfriend in Georgia, authorities said.
Alphonso Xavier Irving, 22, shot and killed Natalie Sampayo, a Garfield native, dead at European Wax Center on Mall Boulevard in Savannah, GA, around 2:50 p.m. on Dec. 15, Savannah police said.
Sampayo was rushed to a local hospital where she died, police said. Irving was arrested and booked in the Chatham County Jail on a murder charge, authorities said.
More than $13,000 had been raised for Sampayo on a GoFundMe page as of Sunday, Dec. 25.

Felon, 23, Faces Drug, Gun Charges In Stamford
A Stamford felon on the state's Deadly Weapons Registry has been arrested for possession of drugs and for having another gun with the serial numbers removed, according to the Stamford Police.
Jonathan Orellana, 23, a recent parole was arrested Saturday afternoon after officers with the Drug and Organized Task Force received word that he was in possession of a weapon, said Stamford Capt. Richard Conklin.
With the information, officers were able to get a search warrant and located Orellana where he worked at a retail store on Summer Street, Conklin said.
