Loved Ones Mourn Sudden Death Of South Windsor Firefighter: ‘John Will Be Missed’ A Connecticut community is grieving after the sudden death of South Windsor Fire Department Staff Lt. John M. Kania. The 71-year-old lifelong South Windsor resident worked at Pratt & Whitney for more than 44 years. Kania was a second-generation firefighter in town and served nine years with Support Company 6 and its Fire Police Unit, the South Windsor Fire Department said. The cause of death was not released. When not serving his community, Kania enjoyed fishing and shooting sports. He was happiest surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren, according to his obituary. Kania lea…

Pratt & Whitney Will Cut Some Jobs To Lower Costs, 'Streamline' East Hartford-Based Company Jet engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney announced on Wednesday, Jan. 29, that the company would shed jobs as part of a restructuring and to save costs.  The company did not say how many people would lose their jobs, but some of the positions cut would be at the East Hartford facility.  "To ensure we are best positioned to address our customers’ most pressing needs now and into the future, we are taking actions to reduce overhead costs and streamline our organizational structure," the company said in a release. Declining Departures Cause Spirit To Close Atlantic City Airport's Crew Hub Spirit Airlines will close its crew base at Atlantic City International Airport, the company said. In a statement, a Spirit spokesperson said the airline will shut down its ACY crew base on Sunday, Sept. 1. The closing will affect 157 pilots and flight attendants. The move will not impact Spirit's flight schedule at ACY.
