Lifelong Member Of Hawthorne Fire Department, Army Vet Dies A community in Northern Westchester is mourning the loss of a lifelong firefighter who dedicated his life to public service.  Hawthorne resident Robert McKechnie died on Tuesday, May 16 at the age of 86, according to his obituary.  Born in 1937, McKechnie graduated from James Bryant High School in Queens and soon after graduation, went on begin a 40-year career at Pepsi.  He also served his country in the US Army from 1960 to 1962, and married his wife, Joan, not long after in 1964.  The couple first lived in Yonkers before moving to Hawthorne, where the…

Prime Vacant Office Space Soars To 62 Percent In Northern Westchester According to the latest quarterly report by JLL, the vacancy rate for office space has hit 62 percent in Northern Westchester, more than three times higher than submarkets in southern Westchester, which have a combined vacancy rate of approximately 20 percent.  JLL's research from the third quarter of 2017 also founds rents are down in general and that countywide, the vacancy rate is nearing 25 percent -- nearly five percent higher than 2013.  It remains to be seen whether the IBM and Pepsi campuses in Somers will have futures as multi-tenant offices, the JLL report said.
