These Cape May County Towns Had the Highest Property Taxes In 2024
If you own a home in Stone Harbor, Avalon, or West Cape May, chances are you’re paying some of the highest property taxes in Cape May County.
According to data from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Stone Harbor Borough tops the list with an average property tax bill of $12,335 in 2024—the highest in the county. Avalon follows close behind at $10,696, while West Cape May homeowners are paying $7,311 on average (scroll down for a complete breakdown by municipality).

Man Decapitated Seagull On Jersey Shore Boardwalk, Police Say
A Cape May man was accused of decapitating a seagull on the boardwalk in North Wildwood, authorities said.
Franklin Zeigler, 29, was charged with third-degree animal cruelty, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, the North Wildwood Police Department said in a news release on Monday, July 22.
Officers responded to a report of an animal cruelty incident at Morey's Piers on Saturday, July 6, and witnesses said Ziegler had decapitated the shorebird. Ziegler was also "irate and uncooperative" with police on an unrelated investigation.

Jackpot: Scratch Ticket Worth $643K Sold At Jersey Shore Wawa
A lucky lottery player won $643,000 on a scratch ticket in Cape May County, officials said.
The $1,000,000 Diamond Spectacular ticket was purchased at the Wawa on West Spruce Avenue in North Wildwood, the New Jersey Lottery said in a news release on Monday, July 22.
The game has sold three tickets that won $1,000,000 in its history. Those were purchased in Colonia, Elmwood Park, and Springfield.
More than seven million tickets have been printed for the game.

Melissa E. O'Malley, a Delaware County native and University of Tampa student, died "following a tragic fall" on Sunday, April 14, loved ones wrote in her obituary. She was 21.
Born in Philadelphia, O'Malley attended Marple Newtown High School and was a junior studying marketing and public relations at UT, her obituary says.
