Nearby Officer, Neighbor Save Virginia Family From Flames: Report
A Virginia family escaped a Monday, April 22 house fire unscathed, authorities said.
Flames were shooting from the home on the 15000 block of Merrily Way in Woodbridge, when firefighters arrived before dawn, according to the Prince William County Fire Department.
According to NBC Washington, a nearby, on-duty officer noticed the fire and began pounding on the door. A neighbor was wailing on her horn in an apparent effort to wake the family up, the outlet said.
Moments later, two adults, their son, and the family dogs left the home.

Retired Alexandria Couple Feared Dead In Caribbean Boat-Jacking By Escaped Prisoners
A retired Virginia couple is feared dead after their catamaran was stolen by escaped prisoners in the Caribbean, authorities said.
The Royal Caribbean Police on Monday, Feb. 26 said the three prisoners, who escaped police custody on Sunday, Feb. 18, likely used Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel's boat, Simplicity, as a getaway boat.
Simplicity was found "anchored and abandoned" off a beach on the south coast of the Caribbean island of St. Vincent on Wednesday, Feb. 21, according to the Salty Dawg Sailing Association. But Hendry, 66, and Brandel, 71, were missing.

A Virginia man who was found naked and covered in blood after dragging his victim’s dead body out of his own Washington, DC apartment in 2019 will spend years behind bars, authorities announced.
Collin Potter, 30, of Quantico, pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder while armed for the butchering of Vongell Lugo on Jan. 6, 2019, in which Potter stabbed his victim 42 times, federal officials said.
This week, he was sentenced by a judge to 16 years in prison for the fatal stabbing.

Maryland Mom's Illegally-Parked Car Towed From Pentagon City Mall With Kids Inside
A Maryland mother whose illegally-parked vehicle was towed from outside of an Arlington mall with her children inside is facing charges, officials said.
Chaukina Thomas, 26, of Suitland, emerged "hysterical" from the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City Tuesday morning, Sept. 5 "hysterical," thinking her car had been stolen, according to NBC Washington and Arlington County spokeswoman Ashley Savage.
Savage's vehicle was not stolen, but in fact towed, as she'd parked it in a no parking zone, Savage said. Responding officers learned this tidbit and the towing company was contacted. …
MD Teen Gunned Down On Family Vacation In Puerto Rico, Suspect Surrenders: Police
A suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Maryland teen in Puerto Rico has surrendered, police said.
Carlos Aníbal Rosado Martínez, 23, turned himself in Wednesday morning, July 5, according to the Commissioner of the Puerto Rico bureau of police.
Rosado Martinez is accused of killing Tommy Grays III in Isla Verde earlier that week, in an altercation on the beach, according to police and NBC Washington.
Tommy, of Olney, was a senior at Blake High School.
Rosado Martinez has been charged with murder, attempted murder and gun offenses.
