Fatal Crash: Person Struck By Car On Route 110 In Melville
A person died after being hit by a car overnight on a busy Long Island roadway.
It happened at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Melville, on Broadhollow Road (Route 110), between Spagnoli Road and Ruland Road.
A 23-year-old Huntington Station man was driving a 2003 Toyota sedan northbound in the left lane when he struck the man who was crossing the road, Suffolk County Police said.

A 30-year-old man was driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra eastbound, near the Pinelawn Road overpass, when he lost control of the vehicle, which exited the roadway, crashed into trees and overturned, according to Suffolk County Police.

West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Long Island; Here's How To Protect Yourself
Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus.
Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott.
The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.

Suspected Long Island Bank Robber Sought By Police
A man who attempted to rob a bank, and later that day successfully robbed another, is being searched for by police, according to authorities.
Both incidents occurred on Friday, May 12.
Suffolk County police reported that at 9:42 a.m., a man between the ages of 25 and 30 attempted to rob the East Farmingdale Bethpage Federal Credit Union, located at 1033 Route 109.
The would-be robber allegedly passed a note to a bank teller demanding money, but the teller did not comply and the man fled on foot.
