Man Crossing Busy Long Island Street Struck, Killed By Vehicle
A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle as he was crossing a busy street on Long Island.
The incident happened Tuesday, Dec. 29 at approximately 6:45 p.m. in Stony Brook.
Kimani R. Porter, age 31, of Brooklyn, was driving a 2017 Dodge truck southbound on Nicolls Road, at the intersection of Shirley Kenny Drive, when the vehicle struck the 60-year-old man who was crossing the street, Suffolk County Police said.
The victim, Kenneth Rott, 60, of Kings Park, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Porter was not injured.

A pickup truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2007 Mazda CX7 SUV traveling northbound in the northbound lanes at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 in Smithtown, north of Exit SM3, state police said.
The driver of the SUV, now identified as Anthony Mariano, age 44, of Kings Park, died at the scene, according to state police.

A woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle Long Island crash.
Vincent La Rose, 63, of Kings Park, was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang eastbound on Fort Salonga Road near the intersection of the Sunken Meadow Parkway when he swerved to avoid another vehicle that made a U-turn in front him just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 in Kings Park, Suffolk County Police said.
