Dedicated Union County dad of three and lab technician Jared Vassallo died on Sunday, Dec. 11 aged 33. Born in Livingston, Jared grew up in Westfield before moving to Newport, Rhode Island, and returning to Kenilworth, his obituary says. Jared graduated from the Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains in 2007 and earned his plumbing certification at the Community College of Rhode Island. One of the 180 animals rescued last month from an alleged Jersey Shore puppy mill was reunited with its original owners from Tennessee on New Year's Eve. Two women who call themselves "Crazy Rescue Ladies" on social media were charged after authorities found the neglected dogs and cats living in unsanitary conditions in their Jersey Shore home last month, police said. The family of a popular Monmouth County crabber who died after falling through a dilapidated dock is reportedly receiving a $2.75 million settlement. Patrick Shopp of Port Monmouth was walking along the dock at the Belford Seafood Co-Op in early 2020 when a broken board dropped him six feet onto the deck of his boat, according to The New Jersey Law Journal. A 50-year-old Jersey Shore man was charged with multiple drug and weapons offenses after a police raid on his home, authorities said. On Monday, Nov. 28, just after 6 a.m., the Brick Township Police Department made a warranted search on a residence in the Maple Leaf Condominium Complex. 30 Swans Dead Of Bird Flu At Jersey Shore Lake: Report
Approximately 30 swans, a duck and a goose died of bird flu at a lake on the Jersey Shore, NJ Advance Media reports. Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra confirmed the cases of bird flu at Lake of the Lilies, telling the outlet that "the risk of human transmission is low." The mayor urged residents to keep their distance from the area "until it has run its course amongst the swans and geese there." An ex-con was convicted in federal court of selling cocaine and crack along the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Damion “Checks” Helmes, 42, of Cliffwood was the last of 20 defendants convicted of peddling the drug throughout Monmouth County and into Ocean County. Lifeguards Due $400K In Overtime, Minors Worked Improperly In These Jersey Shore Towns: State
Nearly 350 lifeguards in three Jersey Shore towns were owed more than $400,000 in unpaid overtime, the state's labor department announced. In Atlantic City, investigators from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Division of Wage and Hour Compliance found the city’s guards were only paid overtime after they reached 48 hours of work per week, not the 40-hour per week mark required under the law.
