At 10 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at 121 Garfield Ave. in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire coming from a third floor bedroom of a three-story residential building, Suarez said. Alcohol Was Factor In Shenandoah River Drowning, Sheriff Says Support is on the rise for a family of a 37-year-old man who drowned while swimming in the Shenandoah River over the weekend. The Page County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Melvin Sorto, and said he had been swimming when he became distressed around 4:05 p.m. Sunday, July 7. Man's Body Pulled From Western Mass. River Police in Hampden County are investigating after they pulled the body of a man from a river in West Springfield earlier this week.  West Springfield police were alerted to a body around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 21, in the Westfield River. He was found in the area of Front Street near the fish ladder, police said in a Facebook post.  The man was dead when police arrived. Authorities have not released his name.  West Springfield police are investigating the incident, but officers do not believe foul play was involved.

Body Found Near Dutchess Community College Parking Lot The body of a man has been found near the Dutchess Community College parking lot off Creek Road, according to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Police found the man's body after receiving reports of an unresponsive male around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, said Capt. Kevin Faber. When officers and EMS personnel arrived it was determined the man was deceased, police said. Faber said that although the investigation is continuing, foul play is not suspected in the case.  The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of his family members.
