Burglar Posed As Building Inspector To Get Inside South Philly Home: Investigators
Two men stole jewelry from a South Philadelphia home last week after one of them claimed he needed to inspect the back deck, city police said. Authorities said it happened last Wednesday afternoon, June 12, on the 2900 block of South Juniper Street. One suspect knocked on the door and claimed to be from a construction company visiting at the request of the building inspector. The homeowner allowed him inside and took him to the rear deck where they spoke for five to 10 minutes, PPD said. Manager Stole $2.2M From Central Jersey Construction Company: Prosecutor
The office manager of a Monmouth County construction company has been charged with swindling her employer out of more than $2.2 million, authorities said. Donna Cook, 52, of Farmingdale is charged with second-degree theft, third-degree forgery, and third-degree false uttering, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey. An investigation found that starting in 2015 and continuing into 2021, Cook allegedly stole funds from the Tinton Falls company by writing herself unauthorized checks, Linskey said. UPDATE: A downed power line may have been responsible for a smoky Paramus blaze doused by firefighters before dawn Thursday, responders said. The fire were reported shortly before 2 a.m. on the second floor and then the basement of a house, which had been used for offices of a construction company. on East Ridgewood Avenue just off northbound Route 17.
