14-Year-Old Charged In Stabbing Death Of Newark Man, 55
A teen was charged in the stabbing death of a 55-year-old Newark man, authorities announced. Jorge Martinez was found stabbed dead in his Parker Street apartment and pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m. on Friday, May 21, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. A 14-year-old juvenile has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The name of the juvenile is not being released at this time because of the age of the juvenile.

$10K Reward Offered In Murder Case Of Newark Grandmother
The Essex County Sheriff's Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing a Newark grandmother on her front porch. Debra Derrick, 63, was shot on the front porch of a home on the 200 block of Lehigh Avenue, while celebrating her late twin sister around 8 p.m. on March 11, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office previously said. Authorities ID Man Killed In Newark Shooting
Authorities have identified the victim who was killed in a Newark shooting Wednesday evening. Akram Brown, 42, was shot in Mount Vernon Place and pronounced dead at the scene around 8 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. No arrests had been made as of Thursday. The investigation is active and ongoing. Man Drowns In Passaic River
A men fell into the Passaic River and drowned Thursday night in Essex County, authorities said. Officers responded to City Dock Street at the riverfront around on reports of a man who fell in around 9:40 p.m. in Newark, the city's public safety director Brian O’Hara said. Officers pulled the unresponsive male from the water and EMS responded. The unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information was available.

Boy Riding Bike, 14, Struck By Car In Newark
A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by a car in Newark Tuesday, authorities said. The boy was riding his bike when he was struck by a vehicle at McCarter Highway and Chestnut Street just before 6:25 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. He was rushed to University Hospital for treatment and the driver remained at the scene. Injuries were considered non-life threatening.

4 Victims Reported In Mother's Day Shooting In Newark
Four people were shot in Newark Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Two men and two women were shot on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 4:40 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. Newark officers Frye and Avedo applied a tourniquet to the leg of a victim to prevent her from bleeding out, O'Hara said. One female was in critical condition while the other victims were in stable condition, O'Hara said.
