The Bloomingdale School District and local police are investigating text message threats targeting a middle school. Around 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, the district received reports of text messages sent from an unknown number threatening a schoolwide attack at Walter T. Speeding Oklahoma Driver In Stolen Car Found With Weapons In Passaic County, Police Say
Bloomingdale police officers turned a routine traffic stop into a major bust, apprehending an Oklahoma man in a stolen vehicle and seizing illegal weapons, authorities announced. Jose Garcia, 23, was pulled over for speeding when officers discovered that the car he was driving had been reported stolen in Trenton, according to Bloomingdale Police Chief Greenwood. Passaic County is seeing red for the first time since 1992. The reliably Democrat county voted for President-elect Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, 95,620 votes to 89,086 votes, 50% to 46.6%. A 50-year-old New Jersey ex-convict is facing multiple charges after police responding to a call for service found assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, and more stashed in safes in the home, authorities said. A Wanaque homeowner required EMS attention for smoke inhalation after a lithium battery ignited a fierce basement fire, authorities said. The basement on Ramapo Mountain Drive was fully involved when firefighters arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, they said. Frozen hydrants left the first two engines just about tapped, with the blaze extending to the first floor, when mutual aid came through, responders said. A Passaic County man was arrested on child porn charges on his birthday, records show. Christian Costa was taken into custody and his Bloomingdale apartment searched on Friday, June 10 -- his 29th birthday -- according to records on file in Superior Court in Paterson. He was charged with child endangerment by distributing, possessing or viewing images of underage sex abuse, as well as illegal prescription drug possession following a search of his apartment, records show.
