Research Monkey Who Escaped Crash Now Resides At Forked River Animal Refuge
Forrest, a rhesus macaque was one of 21 monkeys who were in a truck that overturned in Mississippi in October. The crash made national headlines, especially after it was revealed six of the monkeys, including Forest, escaped. The monkeys were from a research laboratory at Tulane University. Forest was the only one of the escapees who survived and he was found after a week on the run. Because he had spent so much time outside of the facility, he could not return to the research program. A duck and a goose died and tested positive for bird flu at an animal refuge this week. Popcorn Park Animal Refuge in Lacey will remain closed through Friday as a precaution, officials said on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Bucks County native Brooke K. Doucette died on Tuesday, Oct. 4. She was 30. Doucette, of Plumstead Township, died from complications of an aneurysm, according to her obituary. Born in Doylestown, Doucette graduated from Central Bucks East High School and later studied at Bucks County Community College, her obit says. She hoped to one day own an animal sanctuary and enjoyed motorcycle riding, gardening, and cooking. Doucette leaves behind her parents Scott and Nancy Doucette, her brother Ryan A. Doucette, her dog Zero, and many other loved ones. Funeral services were held privately.
