Columbia Man Fatally Struck By Amtrak Train Had History In Mental Health Court Program
A Columbia man was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train in West Donegal Township on New Year’s Day, the Lancaster County Coroner announced on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Alex Fitzgibbon, 34, a Mount Joy native, died from multiple traumatic injuries after the incident near the tracks on Wednesday, Jan. 1. He was transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:22 p.m., according to the Lancaster County Coroner's Office. His death was ruled an accident following an autopsy on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Several bear sightings have been reported in Mercer County neighborhoods and backyards, authorities said.
A black bear was seen near Lawrenceville Road and Skillman Avenue in Lawrence, according to a post from the township’s Facebook page on Wednesday, July 6.
