Universities across the Northeast dominated a new list of the best colleges in the US, with more than 30 institutions ranked among the nation's top 100.
Niche released its 2026 Best Colleges in America list on Monday, Aug. 25. The annual rankings cover more than 4,000 US colleges and universities, comparing them based on academics, value, student life, and athletics.

The grades are in, and these colleges are a cut above the rest.
Of the top 20 liberal arts colleges in the United States, four can be found in Massachusetts, three in New York, and one in Connecticut, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 National Liberal Arts Colleges Rankings.

Five Massachusetts colleges are among the most expensive four-year institutions in the United States, according to a report from CBS News.
On March 10, the news outlet shared a ranking of the 50 most expensive colleges in the country based on information from The National Center for Education Statistics.
