Elmwood Park Police Officer Dragged By Fleeing Acme Shoplifter An Elmwood Park police officer escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon when a shoplifter dragged him with her car. Latonya Hendricks, 42, of Paterson shoved an Acme security guard who tried to stop her and fled with more than $200 worth of merchandise, Police Chief Michael Foligno said. Officer Matt Ausslander, who was among the responders, opened the driver’s side door of Hendricks’s car to try and arrest her when she threw the vehicle into reverse, dragging him, the chief said. Acme Stores In Woodcliff Lake, Elmwood Park To Shutter A pair of Bergen County Acme markets will shutter this fall, a company spokesperson said. The Woodcliff Lake (Chestnut Ridge Road) and Elmwood Park (Broadway) stores will shutter by Oct. 2, a company spokesperson told NJ.com. Two other stores in Weehawken and Scarsdale, N.Y. will also be closing around the same time, Acme spokeswoman Dana Ward told the media outlet. Acme closed its Park Ridge location in 2018, just three years after renewing the lease from a shuttered A&P. Its Bergenfield store also went out of business in 2017. No word yet on the stores' replacements.

The nonprofit organization says six of 284 samples bought from Acme, Costco, Hannaford and Whole Foods stores were tainted with listeria monocytogenes. The items purchased included lettuce, spinach, and kale. Consumer Reports says it found the bacteria in both unbagged and prewashed products. Mild Listeria symptoms may include a fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, according to the Food & Drug Administration.  I…
