Distillery Reopens After 3 Employees Burned In York County (Update)

A high-risk structure fire at a distillery in York County was called into emergency dispatch at 10:16 a.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023.

It is now known that there was no fire or explosion as initially reported at Crostwater Distillery which is also home to KLYR Rum at Holy Water Distillery located at 506 Industrial Dr, Lewisberry, Fairview Township. 

The incident, thought to have been a spill, caused by a chemical caused a acidic vinegar based vapor to former, Fairview Township Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Freistat told the press that afternoon.

"Everyone who was inside evacuated," York County Emergency Management Public Information Officer Ted Czech told Daily Voice. 

Fans were used to vent the building, according to Freistat.

There were burn three victims, according to emergency dispatch. They were taken to the hospital but their injuries are believed to be minor, according to Freistat.

Fire crews have cleared the scene but HazMat remained just over an hour longer, Czech told Daily Voice. HazMat was monitoring air quality said that there is no danger to the community.

The distillery has reached since out to Daily Voice to clarify the situation and set the following statement reading in full:

"This morning, at approximately 10:00 am, Friday, March 17th, an equipment malfunction at Holy Water Distillery—resulted in an unexpected pressurized release of a non-toxic, non-hazardous solution that injured three employees. The malfunction did not result in an explosion or fire nor was there physical damage to the facility. The employees involved received immediate medical attention. At this time, two employees have been released from the hospital. We thank our local first responders for their immediate attention to our employees, as our staff’s care and recovery are our first priority. All authorities have left and released the facility back to Holy Water Distillery."
