Pedestrian Killed In Allentown Wreck Was A Beloved Mom, Family Says
Luz Daneza Ruiz Acosta, an Allentown mother of two with a grandchild on the way, was hit and killed in a car accident Sunday, Dec. 10, according to authorities and loved ones. She was 43. Ruiz Acosta was on the 300 block of West Hamilton Street around 1:15 a.m. when she was fatally struck, Daily Voice reported. The crash remains under investigation by Allentown police and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office. The seventh and final member of a drug smuggling ring that ran from Puerto Rico to Pennsylvania — has been convicted, according to a release by the US Department of Justice on Nov. 16. Moniqua Ramirez, 44, has been found guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, according to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam. Man With Ties To Allentown Escapees Police Custody
A man with Allentown ties who escaped police custody may be on his way back to the area, authorities warn. Hector Ruben Medina-Pagan, 46, broke out from a transport van in Hazleton on March 24, said the Carbon County Sheriff's Office. He is wanted on two parole warrants and now has a pending felony escape charge, they added. Investigators believe he's headed back to Allentown or possibly Puerto Rico. A dozen people face criminal charges in connection with an ongoing scheme to mail cocaine from Puerto Rico to Berks County, according to authorities. During the course of "Operation Special Delivery," a task force of Berks detectives and federal agents seized roughly $4 million worth of cocaine from 19 packages sent through the US Postal Service, said county authorities in a release.
