An employee of the APD since May 1974, Bill had served with the 3rd and 4th Parapolice Platoons, police said. During that time, he received commendations for achievement and lifesaving and was also recognized with a Civilian Award from the department's top brass.
Bill took pride in his work and greatly valued being part of the APD family, the department said. He had dreamed of retiring after 50 years of service, and would have begun his 49th year in May, authorities noted.
In recognition of his service, Bill's parapolice badge number #321 will be retired from circulation, the department said.
"The Allentown Police Department appreciates Bill's dedication and professionalism as well as the impact he made on his fellow colleagues in a positive manner," the statement reads. "He served his department and community with distinction."
According to his obituary, Bill leaves behind a son and daughter. Memorial arrangements in the care of Gilbert Funeral Home in Whitehall will be announced at a later date.
