An elderly couple killed when their home exploded in Western Pennsylvania on Tuesday has been identified, officials announced. David Mitchell Jr. 89 and his 87-year-old wife Helen Mitchell died in the blast in the 1400 block of Riverview Road in Crescent Township, Allegheny County, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner. The was felt about a mile away just before 9 a.m. on March 12, officials told the press at a news conference at 11:30 a.m. that day. Parts of the region will be shoveling out of several inches of snow from the weekend when another strong storm system moves in, forecasters are saying. On Friday, Jan. 5, the National Weather Service released a new model showing between eight and 12 inches of snow in Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, and the Pocono mountains in PA (scroll for map). Air Quality Quickly Worsening As Wildfire Smoke Returns
Another wave of Canadian wildfire smoke is making its way to the East Coast — and things were already not looking great as of Wednesday, June 28. Air quality index (AQI) values were in the triple digits in Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore as of Wednesday afternoon, AccuWeather says citing Plume Labs (see map above). A man wanted on criminal homicide charges was caught in Western Pennsylvania, US Marshals announced on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Travis Burton was found hiding in the basement of a home in the 600 block of Romine Street, McKeesport, acting U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Phil Cornelious stated in the announcement. Amish Man ID'd Following Deadly PA Crash: State Police
A 77-year-old Amish man died after his horse-and-buggy was rear-ended in Western Pennsylvania, authorities say. Daniel N. Miller of New Wilmington died at the scene of the crash on New Castle Mercer Road in Wilmington Township on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 5:37 p.m., according to a release the following day by the Pennsylvania state police. UPDATE: Gerald Zilka, 70, has been found safe, according to an updated release by the Pennsylvania state police. No additional information about this was released.
