Harrisburg Native Melvin Kling, Decorated WWII Vet, Attended Hundreds Of Penn State Games
Melvin E. Kling, formerly of Pennsauken, New Jersey and the Harrisburg area in Pennsylvania, died on Christmas, a month shy of his 100th birthday, according to an obituary by the Alloway Funeral Home.
He was a highly-decorated veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe as well as the Korean War, where he was a commanding officer of a 101st Airborne company.
He was a huge fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Mel had estimated he traveled to 200 to 300 Penn State football games, both home and away, his obituary said.

Alyson Garino, a Bergen County native and highly-respected First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, died on Dec. 2, 2023. She was 30 years old.
A graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy, Alyson went on to attend Penn State University, State College, and graduated with honors in 2015, according to her obituary on the Becker Funeral Home website. A Schreyer Scholar, she majored in English and minored in Military Studies. Three men are charged in connection with a scheme to use a US soldier's stolen identity to buy guns illegally, according to authorities.
Taalibudeen “Taalib” Ibn Hasdn Anderson, 22, and Tariq Anderson, 23, both of Philadelphia, and Daijon Griffin, 21, of Wilmington, Delaware, are each in police custody, said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele's Office.

A head-on collision has killed two people and sent another to an area hospital, according to a release by Pennsylvania state police on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Richard E. Cowan, 69, of Chambersburg, drove his 2015 Ford Transit over the center turning lane in the 8100 block of US 30/Lincoln Way slamming head-on into a 2019 Hyundai Accent, driven Maura J. Boyce, 42, of Mercersburg, just east of Campbell’s Run Road, St. Thomas Township on Monday, Feb. 6, around 2 p.m., police detailed in the release.
