Pennsylvania State Police were called to a UGI substation on Hersheypark Drive after a "suspicious item" was found on Thursday morning. Derry Township Police were called to the substation first around 11:17 a.m. on March, 14. The police explained the situation as follows: "The item was identified by UGI employees as suspicious, not belonging there, and the item was unfamiliar to them." The deadly explosion at the RM Palmer chocolate factory in West Reading was the result of a fracture in an old natural gas pipe, according to a new report from the National Transportation Safety Board. The blast, which killed seven employees and laid waste to an entire borough block on March 24, was caused by natural gas "leaking from a DuPont Aldyl A service tee that was installed in 1982," NTSB said. A gas leak closed Penn Square in Lancaster on Friday, July 7, 2023. All vehicle traffic at Penn Square was diverted north onto Queen Street, according to a post by the Lancaster Bureau of Police. The leak appears to have involved a boiler in the area of East King and North Duke streets in the City, according to Lancaster County Wide Communications. "No foot traffic (was) allowed in 100 Block East King," police said. UGI has cleared the scene, according to the police and dispatch.

People in the homes within a 300-foot radius of the 500 block of Highland Street had been evacuated due to the leak, emergency dispatchers told Daily Voice.
