Love-Themed Poconos Motel Famous For Romantic Getaways Closes After 50 Years The Land of Love is letting go. After nearly 50 years, Pocono Palace Resort — a popular love-themed getaway in the Poconos — has closed its doors. The East Stroudsburg motel, which reportedly opened in 1976, was sold, with the transition of title set for Thursday, May 2, according to a statement on its website: "We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." Ax Murder Cold Case: $5K Reward Offered In PA Bartender's 1981 Slaying A literal ax murderer who hacked a man to death has been on the loose in Pennsylvania for more than 40 years. Edward James Joubert spent the last day of his life — Nov. 28, 1981 — working at the Bottom of the Fox Tavern, on the corner of Main and Oak streets in Delaware Water Gap, troopers said. The bar was crowded when Joubert walked around back at 5 p.m. to grab some firewood, police said. Donn Innes, 68, was heading westbound when he collided with Jeffrey Bates, 31, after speeding off of the westbound lane near milepost 291.9 in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County, around 12:25 p.m., state police said in a press release.
