Traffic on Interstate 81 was already moving a bit slow due to the fog when a crash led to an additional slowdown on Thursday morning, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The multiple-vehicle crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-81, approximately .8 miles from Exit 29: PA 174 - King Street, near Shippensburg, according to PennDOT's 511PA. A tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 81 — rolling over, spilling goods and fuel, and injuring the driver, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice on Wednesday morning. At least two vehicles caught fire on Interstate 81 in Central Pennsylvania on Thursday morning. The incident appears to have started when a tractor-trailer attempted to pull on the right shoulder on I-81 near Exit 37: Newville in Penn Township around 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler told Daily Voice. A tractor-trailer fire closed part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Thursday evening, authorities said. The Fairview Township Fire Department along with mutual aid responded to the "well-involved" fire on Interstate 76 westbound around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19. A crash shuttered all lanes of Interstate 81 Northbound in Central Pennsylvania, authorities say.
