Tractor-Trailer Driver Killed In Chain-Reaction Crash On I-476 In Delco

A tractor-trailer driver was killed in a chain-reaction crash on I-476 in Delaware County, authorities said.

The rig failed to stop as it was traveling southbound on the Blue Route near mile maker 11.2 and crashed through a guardrail into the northbound lanes around 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, according to the Radnor Fire Company.

The truck struck another tractor-trailer before one of them hit a third semi that was heading north, fire officials said. The wreck blocked all of the northbound lanes.

The tractor-trailer driver who crashed through the median was rushed to a local hospital, where he died, officials said.

The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries, authorities added.

The road was reopened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 6abc reports.
