Two Black men dressed in abayas and hijabs (that were pulled up over their faces like niqabs) entered the Happy Family Nail Salon and Spa located at 1100 W. Girard Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, according to Philadelphia police. About three hours later, the same men, still dressed as Muslim women robbered Nails In The City at 2401 Aramingo Ave.
In both cases, all of the salons' employees were held at gunpoint as the men took their wallets and IDs, the police explained. "Cash was also stolen from the registers," the police said, and "one Store employee was shot in the leg during the Aramingo Ave robbery after pursuing the suspects."
The woman who was shot was taken to an area hospital where she remains in stable condition, according to the police.
The men are described as follows:
Suspect 1: Black man, 6 feet tall, stocky build, wearing a black & white print abaya, orange hijab/niqab, grey gloves, black pants, black & white "Nike" sneakers, grey & white mechanic style gloves.
- Suspect 2: Black man, 5 feet 10 inches, thin build, cheetah or leopard print abaya, blue or purple hijab/niqab, black pants, white sneakers, grey & white mechanic style gloves.
"If you see these suspects, do not approach, contact 911 immediately," the police said.
