Philadelphia Woman Sentenced For Brandishing Handgun In Atlantic City
A 23-year-old woman from Philadelphia was sentenced to 270 days in jail on a weapons offense, authorities said. Shania Simon was sentenced Monday, April 17 pending an appeal for possessing a handgun, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Simon originally pleaded guilty on Sept. 1, 2022, and agreed to a recommended sentence of three years in New Jersey State Prison with a one-year period of parole ineligibility, the prosecutor said. A 20-year-old man from Philadelphia was arrested with a loaded handgun in Atlantic City, authorities said. Rahmiere Shaw-Floyd was with a group of others when police thought they observed him with a gun. Shaw-Floyd exited the boardwalk and went onto the beach at New York Avenue where he was stopped by the responding officers. Police said they located a loaded handgun in Shaw-Floyd’s waistband at which time he was taken into custody without incident. Five people were arrested and a stash of crystal meth and weapons were seized as part of a multi-agency investigation in South Jersey, authorities said. A passenger wanted on a warrant was carrying a loaded gun in his pocket when an Rochelle Park police officer stopped the sedan he was in, authorities said.
