A Philadelphia man was accused of hitting another man in the head with a sledgehammer in Monmouth County, authorities said. Michael Gonzales, 36, was arrested on Friday, Apr. 5, a Middletown police spokesperson said. He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. Feds: Jersey Shore Dealer Convicted Of Selling Cocaine, Crack In Monmouth, Ocean Counties
An ex-con was convicted in federal court of selling cocaine and crack along the Jersey Shore, authorities said. Damion “Checks” Helmes, 42, of Cliffwood was the last of 20 defendants convicted of peddling the drug throughout Monmouth County and into Ocean County. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Trenton found Helmes guilty of various drug-dealing charges while acquitting him of two gun offenses following a two-week trial. Multiple officers fired at the robber at the Keansburg Pharmacy in Keansburg Plaza on Main Street shortly before 3:30 p.m., Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck said. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later, the attorney general said. His identity was temporarily being withheld. The officer was taken to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel. Bruce Springsteen’s federal court appearance on DWI charges Wednesday will be streamed live via Zoom for the news media.
