A witness provided police with the car's registration after the April 24, 2020 crash at the Easton Road store in Pipersville, Plumstead police said.
The registered owner, Alexandria Herrmann, 25 of Hellertown, fabricated a story to police saying she did not know who the operator of the car was, police said.
After a nearly year-long investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect on Feb. 8, police said.
Elias Mallouhi, 21, of Allentown, admitted to being the driver and leaving the scene of the accident, police said.
Herrmann was later re-interviewed where she ultimately admitted to fabricating a story to officers, police said.
Mallouhi was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, accidents involving death or personal injury while not being licensed, obstructing administration of law, or other governmental function.
Herrmann was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, obstructing administration or law or other governmental function, and false reports to law enforcement authorities.
Both Mallouhi and Herrmann were taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Gary Gamberdella on Feb. 23.
Judge Gamberdella set an unsecured bail of $200,000.
They were both released and a preliminary hearing date has been set for March.
