Kayaker Found Dead In Central PA Creek: Officials A 44-year-old kayaker was found dead in Swatara Creek, the Dauphin County Coroner's Office confirmed Friday morning.  The Lancaster man was kayaking with friends when "he appears to have had a medical event," on Thursday, June 13, according to the coroner's release.  A life jacket was reportedly on the boat but was not on the man when he was found shortly after 9 p.m., officials explained.  "The Coroner’s Office is now working to ensure that all family members are notified before releasing his name," Dauphin County Press Secretary Diane McNaughton said. The man who drowned in Swatara Creek on Saturday has been identified as Stephen "Steve" Matrese Sr., 58, of Marysville and Harrisburg. The drowning happened while crews we're attempting to rescue him, among others on Saturday around 12:30 p.m. and he was found dead on Sunday around 1 p.m., as Daily Voice previously reported.
