Pennsylvania Man Charged After Toddler Shot Self With Unattended Gun: DA Three-year-old Elijah Abreu Borgen accidentally shot himself with a gun that an Allentown man had stashed under the couch, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.  Jose Hilario Abreu, 28, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, prosecutors said in a release Friday.  Borgen was shot on the 900 block of East Hamilton Street on March 28 and rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest where he succumbed to his injuries, city police said previously. 61K Gun Safes Sold At Retailers Nationwide Recalled After 12-Year-Old Shot, Killed With Weapon More than 61,000 gun cases sold nationwide are being recalled due to a malfunction that can allow unauthorized people to access dangerous weapons, and already led to the death of a child. Illinois-based Fortress Safe announced this week that the biometric gun safes were being recalled due to a "serious safety hazard and risk of death" caused by a programming feature that made the safes more accessible.  The recall comes following a recent lawsuit that alleges a 12-year-old boy died from a gun obtained from one of the safes, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).  "…

The boy was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he later died, police said. There was a caregiver present in the home at the time of the shooting, according to police.  An investigation is ongoing.

10-Year-Old Boy Shoots, Kills Himself After Finding Gun In Philadelphia Home A 10-year-old boy shot and killed himself after finding a gun in his Philadelphia home, news reports say. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Saturday in a home at 1410 W Pacific St., NBC News reports. The boy and his 8-year-old sister apparently found the weapon in a cabinet, when he shot himself in the head, the outlet says. The girl ran to a neighbor's house and called police. The boy was rushed to a local hospital and pronounced dead around 40 minutes after the shooting.
