Kaitlyn Rebecca Wertz, 29, of Lancaster, was found laying on her back near the checkout of the gas station located at 1136 Harrisburg Pike in Lancaster, on Feb. 23, 2023, Manheim Township police explained in a release on Friday, March 3.

Wertz was unconscious when EMS arrived and they used three doses of NARCAN to revive her, according to the police release.

"In the store with Wertz, at the time of her overdose, was a 1-year-old child. No one was on the scene to care for the child and the child was unable to care for themselves during that time," police say.

The infant's relationship with Wertz was not immediately clear but the police believe the child is hers.

A criminal complaint was filed and an arrest warrant was obtained while Wertz was taken to Lancaster General Hospital.

"An arrest by appointment was set for February 22, 2023. Wertz failed to show for the arrest by appointment and a warrant was re-issued," the police state in the release.

She has a criminal record for drug, theft, and driving under the influence of drugs in Chester and Lancaster counties, court records show. She has previously undergone state-mandated treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

She is wanted on charges of Endangering the Welfare of Children, Public Drunkenness Warrant, police say and court records confirm.
