The difficult task of ruling whether an "accidental" shooting may be a homicide is up to authorities in Luzerne County, Daily Voice was told on Friday, Sept. 6. A teenage boy was fatally wounded with a gunshot wound to his chest in Nanticoke on Sunday, Sept. 1, authorities said. The victim was identified as Hunter Sipple, 17, the following day. A 39-year-old Lyft rideshare driver is accused of sexually assaulting a passenger who was incapacitated by an inhalant in Luzerne County, authorities said. The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop P Criminal Investigation Unit is currently investigating the sexual assault that occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 20. PA State Police Car Catches Fire On Route 80
A PSP vehicle caught fire on a Luzerne County highway late Monday, July 15, according to officials. The blaze happened on Route 80 near mile marker 272.1, said White Haven Fire Company. Troopers brought the flames under control by the time firefighters arrived, and a hose was used to soak down the engine compartment, authorities said. No one was injured, the fire company added. A Luzerne County doctor is charged with 32 felony counts related to diverting narcotics, said the state Attorney General's Office Friday, March 22. Benjamin Woytas, 34, of Wilkes-Barre Township, is accused of distributing methamphetamine in Luzerne County in August 2023, said USA Gerard Karam in a release. A body found during mine reclamation work in Luzerne County 30 years ago has finally been identified, state police announced Tuesday, Feb. 20. Margaret Carol Wininger was the "Sugarloaf Jane Doe," troopers wrote in a release. Wininger's remains were found badly decomposed off of Tomhicken Road in Sugarloaf Township on Dec. 12, 1994, authorities said. Man, 23, Shot Dead By US Marshal In Luzerne County
A 23-year-old man was killed in a shootout with a US Marshals agent arresting him in Luzerne County Wednesday, Aug. 10, authorities said. Jordan Urenovitch, who was wanted on warrants for gun and drug charges, fired at a member of the Fugitive Task Force in Hazle Township when the deputy fired back, Pennsylvania State Police said. Deputies apparently spotted Urenovitch in a car before he bolted over to 22nd Street Auto Center and shot were fired around 12:40 p.m., according to PSP. Urenovitch was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Luzerne County DA will handle the investigation.

Eastern PA Infant Dies After Being Found Unresponsive: Police
An infant died after being found unresponsive in Luzerne County, authorities said. Troopers responded to the Hazleton Apartments on West 24th Street in Hazle Township around 2:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 for a report of an unresponsive 3-month-old child, Pennsylvania State Police said. Cops found the child in bed with a man, who was asleep at the time, they said. The boy was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton, where he was pronounced dead. The infant's identity and cause of death were not immediately provided by authorities. The incident remains under investigation.
