The woman injured after a propane explosion destroyed a recreational vehicle and damaged property at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike has died and been, authorities announced on Saturday, Dec. 14.
Melinda VanNewkirk, 68, of Milton, Delaware, was pronounced dead at 1:36 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, according to the Cumberland County Coroner's Office. Her cause of death was listed as complications from burns covering 35% to 37% of her body. The manner of death was ruled accidental.

A white Kia SUV struck a PECO utility pole, rolled over, and entrapped the driver in a serious crash on Stump Road in Warrington Township, police announced on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the Chalfont section of Warrington Township, between Limekiln Pike and Billingsley Road, according to authorities. A 21-year-old man was shot multiple times outside Longhorn Steakhouse on City Line Avenue before crashing his vehicle into a SEPTA bus, Philadelphia police announced Friday, Nov. 22.

9 Hospitalized, 40 Displaced In Massive Warwick Fire
A pre-dawn fire destroyed an apartment building in Warwick Township, displacing 40 people and sending five to the hospital, officials said Sunday, Nov. 17.
Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Creekside Lane at 4:30 a.m., Warwick Emergency Services Commission Fire Commissioner Duane Ober said.
“When we arrived, we had fire shown in multiple locations,” Ober explained, estimating that 100 firefighters from a dozen companies battled the blaze before 5 a.m.

Fatal Fire: Elderly Philadephia Woman Killed In House Fire, Police Say
An unidentified woman in her 80s died in a house fire on Wednesday, Sept. 11, authorities said.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., an Emergency-911 call was placed reporting a residential structure fire at 3500 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia police said.
Responding units arrived on the scene to find the property engulfed in flames, police said.
"An approximately 87-year-old female, identified as Jane Doe, was located inside the residence," police said in a press statement.
Despite efforts by emergency personnel, the woman was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic 57 at 10:24 am., police said.
