Hundreds of mink were released from a Northumberland County farm on Saturday, Oct. 19, leading to two arrests, according to authorities. The animals were released from Richard H. Stahl Sons Inc. farm in Sunbury, according to a news release from Fur Commission USA. Two Massachusetts residents were arrested on Saturday, Oct. 19 for what Fur Commission USA called an act of terrorism. Poisoned Hawk Found By Hiker In Lower Merion Township: Police
A red-tailed hawk that was suffering after being poisoned was rescued in Lower Merion Township, according to police. Officers responded to a call about a hawk that was in distress in a wooded area of Gladwyne, the Lower Merion Township Police Department said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Officer Brian Devlin, the department's Animal Warden, confirmed to Daily Voice that he was involved in rescuing the hawk on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Foster Homes Needed For 30 Animals Seized From Berks County Home
Rescue officials are desperate for help after 30 animals were seized from a home in Berks County. The Department of Animal Protection from the Animal Rescue League of Berks County was performing a wellness check when they removed 22 dogs, three cats, five snakes, and two geckos were removed from a home in Womelsdorf on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Amish Farm Has Two-Alarm Barn Fire: Authorities
An Amish barn had a blaze burning through it early Thursday morning, Oct. 10, according to Lancaster County Wide Communications. The call to the fire at the farm located in the 5900 block of Meadville Road in Salisbury Township, Narvon came into LCWC at 3:24 a.m., according to the supervisor. The area of Meadeville and Red Hill roads were closed as fire crews battled the blaze. The barn stored hay, not animals, so no humans or animals were injured. Tanya Smakula Garcia, of Telford, formerly of Sellersville, died on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, according to an obituary published by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home. She was 38 years old. Tanya graduated from Pennridge High School, class of 2004, according to her obituary. She was an avid cheerleader for seven years. SPCA Rescues 124 Animals, Largest Farm Cruelty Case In Bucks County History
The Bucks County SPCA rescued 124 farm animals neglected in horrendous conditions in Wrightstown, authorities announced late on Thursday, Aug. 8. The animals were at Narrow Way Farm at 887 Worthington Mill Road in Wrightstown Township, the SPCA said. Among the rescued animals were 58 goats, 49 chickens, 10 pigs, five sheep and two steers, the SPCA said on Facebook. Two other animals were found dead on the property.
