Missing Schizophrenic Man Found Dead In Susquehanna River: PA State Police

A man with schizophrenia who had been missing for nearly three weeks was found dead in the Susquehanna River, authorities announced.

Alexander Neff, 42, of Holtwood, was found near the Holtwood Dam in Martic Township around 10:05 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office.

Neff had last been seen leaving his home on the 1000 block of Holtwood Road at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, Pennsylvania State Police previously said.

A coroner’s investigator pronounced Neff dead at the scene. A physical assessment revealed no signs of trauma, officials said.

An autopsy was completed the next day and determined Neff died from fresh water drowning. His manner of death was ruled accidental.

Neff had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was described by authorities as prone to staring without speaking.
