Anjela Borisova Urumova, of Bristol Township, admitted to seven misdemeanor charges, including false alarm to an agency of public safety, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, false reports, and unsworn falsifications to authorities, the DA's office said.
Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr sentenced Urumova to 45 days to 23 months in Bucks County Correctional Facility, followed by one year of probation. She must also undergo a mental health evaluation, have no contact with the victim or his family, and pay $3,600 in restitution.
The case stems from an April 16, 2024, report in which Urumova claimed she was attacked in the parking lot of a Redner’s in Middletown Township. Her allegations led to the wrongful arrest and 31-day incarceration of Daniel Pierson, who was ultimately cleared after an investigation revealed Urumova's story was a fabrication.
Middletown Township Police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office uncovered inconsistencies in Urumova’s account through surveillance footage and a forensic review of her phone. Detectives confronted Urumova, who admitted she had lied about the incident, according to a criminal complaint.
Urumova had targeted Pierson by describing his truck and identifying him as her attacker because she had seen him in the past, police said. The accusations resulted in Pierson facing multiple felony charges, which were later withdrawn.
"Not only did this targeted false report impact the victim and his family in unimaginable ways, but there is also a profound ripple effect," District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said. "A crime like this can shatter the community's confidence in the system."
Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin M. McElroy said the victim and his family were too emotional to speak in court, noting the lasting harm caused by Urumova's lies.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the work that law enforcement did in this case to get down to what happened, but it can't change the fact that a man spent 31 days sleeping in a cell for a crime he didn't commit," McElroy said.
Research shows very few women make false reports and encouraged real victims of sexual violence to still come forward, McElroy added.
This case was investigated by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and the Middletown Township Police Department and prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin M. McElroy.
