Five Hospitalized After Hazmat Exposure At Prison In PA: Officials
Five staff members were hospitalized following a hazmat incident at York County Prison, county officials announced in a statement released on Monday, May 12.
Emergency personnel were first called to the facility on the 3400 block of Concord Road in Springettsbury Township around 9:51 p.m. on Friday, May 9, for a report of a possible overdose.
At 10:16 p.m., more emergency units were dispatched. By 10:48 p.m., the incident had been upgraded to a hazmat situation, prompting a large response from police, EMS, and hazardous materials crews.

A Warrington Township mom turned herself in after police discovered her overdosing with fentanyl near her children and a home in severe disarray, authorities announced Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025.
Alexandre Diana Sharpe, 35, was arrested at the Warrington Township Police Department after an investigation stemming from a medical emergency at her Chalfont home on Teresa Circle on Nov. 23, 2024, police said.
Officers arrived to find Sharpe actively overdosing alongside another adult, identified as Anderson-Ley, who also appeared under the influence of controlled substances, police detailed.

An already incarcerated 31-year-old man was sentenced to more prison time after pleading guilty to the overdose-related death of another inmate, the Buck County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Allen Rhoades, 31, of Doylestown, was sentenced to seven to 20 years in prison for providing the drugs that led to the death of Joshua Patterson, 22, of Philadelphia, while both men were serving time on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, the DA's Office detailed in a release.
