A 20-year-old Philadelphia man was sentenced to 21 years in prison in connection with a series of armed carjackings in the city and Delaware County, federal authorities announced on Monday, Sept. 9 Alex Askew was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Timothy J. Savage for attacks that targeted elderly victims in Philadelphia and Upper Darby, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero explained. Savage also ordered Askew to make restitution of $36,183. A Pennsylvania state trooper shot a man dead during a standoff at a mobile home park on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Lycoming County, authorities said. Someone came into a Chinese restaurant and stabbed the owner on Thursday evening, Sept. 5, Philadelphia Police announced about an hour after the incident. A 39-year-old woman was shot in the leg during a fight inside an auto body shop in Philadelphia, authorities said. Man With Drug Warrant Flees Police In Lycoming County
A 40-year-old man was arrested for fleeing police in Lycoming County, authorities said. Michael Charles Devan had been stopped on Aug. 20 by Williamsport police near West Fourth and Campbell streets. During a traffic stop, Devan learned that he had an active felony drug warrant, police said. Philadelphia Police responded to a man barricaded inside a basement, authorities said. The person had a weapon on the 4100 block of Devereaux Street (private rowhome) at 10:49 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, they said.
