A brief tornado touched down in Quarryville during storms late Thursday, Sept. 4, the National Weather Service in State College confirmed on Sunday, Sept. 7. The EF-0 tornado produced peak winds of 70 mph, had a path length of 0.15 miles, and reached a maximum width of 30 yards, officials said. It spun up southeast of Collins at 9:31 p.m. and lifted the roof off a dugout at the Solanco Youth Baseball Association, according to the release. A couple was caught naked and having sex in the back of an SUV parked at a church in Adams County, police announced on Friday, Aug. 8. Detective Sergeant Hilliard of the Bendersville Borough Police Department spotted the SUV idling without lights at 126 Church Street — the Bendersville Lutheran Parish — around 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, according to police. Blaze Engulfs United Missionary Baptist Church Near Girard College, Community Offers Prayers
Flames tore through the United Missionary Baptist Church, less than a mile from Girard College, sending plumes of smoke into the Philadelphia night sky before firefighters wrestled the blaze under control by 9:30 p.m., Deputy Fire Chief Charles Johnson said. A Bible study teacher has been sentenced to prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl in a Lancaster County church, prosecutors announced on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Investigators are searching for the man who broke into St. Helena’s Parish last month, Philadelphia police say.
