Election 2024: Water Quality Proposal Decided By Suffolk County Voters Long Island voters have made their voices heard on a ballot measure aimed at improving water quality. Suffolk County’s Proposal 2 was overwhelmingly approved by a margin of 72 to 28 percent, according to the Suffolk County Board of Elections. It will add a one-eighth of a cent sales tax increase – or 12.5 cents on every $100 spent – to expand the sewer system. It would also provide tax-free grants to Suffolk County homeowners on septic systems to connect directly to the sewer system. Election 2024: Poll Worker Threatens Voter, Tussles With Cops In Oceanside, Police Say An election poll worker is accused of threatening a voter and fighting with police at a polling place on Long Island. The incident happened in Oceanside, at Oaks School #3 on Fortesque Avenue, shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5. Nassau County Police said Mark Sebesta, age 54, of Baldwin, was serving as a poll worker when he got into an argument with a 25-year-old male voter. He is accused of threatening the man. Update: Trooper Under Criminal Investigation Amid Doubts Over West Hempstead Shooting A New York State Police trooper who claimed someone shot him on a roadway in the region is now under criminal investigation amid growing doubts over his story. On Long Island, state police “have reason to believe that the incident did not occur the way it was reported” by trooper Thomas Mascia, an agency spokesperson told reporters Wednesday morning, Nov. 6. Alert Issued For Missing 17-Year-Old Girl From Bay Shore Authorities are asking for help in locating a missing teenager from Long Island. Jenna Ceruti, age 17, of Bay Shore, was last seen on Sunday, Nov. 3, according to the New York State Missing Persons Clearinghouse. She is believed to be in the local area. No other information was given. Ceruti previously went missing for two weeks in August 2023 before being located. She is 5-foot-7 and 110 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Halloween-Masked Stabber Sought After Random Attack On Central Islip Victim A suspect is on the loose after a random, Halloween day stabbing attack on Long Island. The incident happened in Central Islip, outside a business on Brightside Avenue near Islip Avenue, shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.
