A cockfighting ring in Galloway Township led to 48 people facing charges of animal cruelty on Wednesday, Feb. 26, authorities said. Galloway Township police found electronic invitations to an illegally organized cockfight event scheduled in March 2024, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said. Police were able to stop a cock fight that was taking place in an arena constructed specifically for the purpose of rooster fighting, authorities said. The 38-year-old Egg Harbor Township woman was charged with manslaughter on Saturday, Feb. 22, for drunkenly crashing into another car last December, killing a Somers Point man who was declared cancer-free just two months prior, Egg Harbor Township police said. A 54-year-old Toms River surgeon died following a medical episode while driving on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County on Thursday, Jan. 30, authorities said. At 7:10 a.m., Dr. Jarrod Kaufman was driving a Tesla Model Y northbound on the Garden State Parkway in Lakewood Township, when his vehicle veered off the roadway into a briar patch, Chares Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.
